Heartbeats

On the day before I was destined to die, I believe I finally succumbed to the grips of alcoholism. After years of hitting rock bottom and enduring numerous relapses, I found myself at the end of the road with nowhere left to turn but up, or straight out. Thanks to the incredible love, support, and grace of certain individuals as well as my Higher Power, I made the choice to move upwards. It was on a warm, sunny Sunday afternoon in June of 1992, at an alcohol and drug rehab nestled on the side of a mountain in New Hampshire, that I surrendered to my disease.

This is the story of my journey towards recovery from the clutches of alcoholism and addiction. It encompasses the highs, the lows, and the harsh realities, as well as the optimism that has been generously passed on to me by countless brave individuals who have been on the road to recovery for the past twenty-six years. If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction, please remember that there is always hope for a brighter future. Never give up on yourself, no matter what, and I hope that my book can serve as a guiding light in your path to recovery. And if no one has told you today that they love you, know that I do.
